Craft/Recipe: Playdough Recipe
Time: 30-60 minutes
In kindergarten, we learn to read for 3 purposes: for fun, for information, and to follow directions. Recipes are a great example of reading to follow directions.
Materials Required:
    Mix in a medium pot:
  • 1 cup white flour
  • ¼ cup salt
  • 2 TBSP cream of tartar
    Add:
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp. food coloring
  • 1 TBSP oil
Directions:
Mix all ingredients and cook over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes. Stir continually. It will look like a “globby” mess. You might not think that it’s turning out, but hang in there. When it forms a ball in the center of the pot, it is done. Cool completely. Dump it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead. Store it in a plastic container or a plastic zipper-style bag. --submitted by Lynn Hess
