Growing Plants
Music and Lyrics by: Benjamin and Freya Goldstein
We’re working in the garden with old Farmer Brown,
Hoeing around, hoeing around,
Smoothing out the soil and preparing the ground
So the seeds can grow.
Lots of little worms are under the ground,
Wiggling around, tunneling around,
Breaking up the clods in the hard, hard ground
So the seeds can grow.
Now it’s time to scatter the seeds,
Planting them in rows.
Pat the soil down over them
So they won’t blow away if a rough wind blows.
The little seeds are lying hard and round,
Dry and round, under the ground.
Gentle showers of rain come pouring down
So the seeds can grow.
Each little seed puts out a shoot,
A little green leaf, a tiny white root.
They grow and grow and before you know –
They’re corn and tomatoes, beans and potatoes.
Now the sun is shining, nice and hot.
That makes the little plants grow a lot.
All this lovely sunshine sure hits the spot –
Makes the garden grow.
The farmer comes and picks the weeds.
They’re taking up space the garden needs.
The weeds have really got to go
If we want to make the garden grow.
Now at last it’s time to pick the crops.
Put them in the pot, stir it up a lot.
Cook it for an hour and make some stew
For me and you!
