KPA is an acronym for Kindergarten
Performance Assessment.
The KPA is a Harford County Public Schools standardized language arts diagnostic tool,
administered to kindergarteners in the fall and spring of their kindergarten year.
It is administered by familiar school staff members in a non-threatening
atmosphere; it is often administered in a game format. The KPA is performance-based
and is aligned with the HCPS Kindergarten Outcomes.
In September, the fall KPA is given to find out what your child knows in the area of language arts. The kindergarten team will use the results of the fall KPA, along with classroom performance and teacher observations to plan ways to best meet your child's needs throughout the school year. You will receive the results of your child's fall KPA at your first quarter parent/teacher conference.
Progress reports will be distributed for each of the following 3 quarters. Requests for a parent/teacher conference can be made at any time. Your child's achievement of the kindergarten curriculum will be assessed and displayed in the following manner:
In May, the spring KPA is given to find out which kindergarten language arts outcomes your child has mastered during kindergarten. The kindergarten team will use the results of the spring KPA, along with classroom performance and teacher observations to plan ways to best meet your child’s needs during the following school year. The results of your child’s spring KPA will be communicated in the fourth quarter progress report.
YYou will be notified of the testing dates in advance. Encourage your child to do his or her best throughout the KPA. Please see that your child arrives to school on time, and eats a nutritious breakfast before coming to school. Feel free to contact Mrs. Hess with questions, concerns, or comments. Thank you for your support.
