Gradual Entrance

Mother and Child Walking Gradual Entrance occurs on the first day of kindergarten. It is an abbreviated kindergarten session that is attended by both the student and a parent. Gradual Entrance serves to alleviate the anxiety associated with beginning kindergarten. In order to encourage a smooth transition into elementary school, as well as provide quality time with the teacher, small groups of students are scheduled throughout the first day of school.

During Gradual Entrance, the children complete quiet hands-on activities while the teacher discusses kindergarten policies and procedures with the parents. In-depth discussion pertaining to the kindergarten curriculum will occur at Back-to-School Night in September. Following the parent discussion, the children will participate in introductory activities with the teacher.

The atmosphere at Gradual Entrance is stress-free and enjoyable. The goal is to welcome kindergarteners and parents into the school system, and to provide them with information that will support school success. Kindergarteners begin their regular means of transportation to and from school on the second day of school.
